Scavenged.

A few samples of various collections... There is more. In time they will most likely end up stuck onto a piece of cardboard and drawn around...
But seriously. The worn aesthetics, the fact it has history, has a story, the characteristics, images, graphics, objects. Step back from the over saturated, clean, slick, methodical, shiny arena of todays society. The colours haven't been tainted to perfection/the accepted effects, they are gaudy, inaccurate at times and fairly unattractive in others. Classic. Brilliant. But abandoned. So I haggle and hoard them.

I insist on working literally hands on. In a sense its partly an aim to stay true to the simpler days, the original methods they were created in. Often happily profess my chosen ways of working as ignorance or inability of technical skill, this is a lie. I want to create something. hands on. feel each texture. assess the overall look. have it all in front of me to flip and change but also not have the fluidity to change once a decision has been made. In honesty I believe the permanence and lack of room for mistakes causes me personally to work and chose materials better. Plus I believe I have more media available to me, further scope for aesthetics. I'm sure a slick graphics individual would disagree. bigtime.
Plus. I'm a self professed art fan, well keen on the old school methods. especially drawing.
Graphics tablets are just far too clinical and lacking. enough rants.

The beginning.

It all began here. In a way. To some extent. It could be argued.
Definitely can't take full claim to my artistic cardboard related aspirations. But definitely a part of the jigsaw.
JUNK SHOPS. especially this one.

And it has a parrot.

Cardboard.

Just to clarify. This obsession doesn't particularly go beyond the visual.
I'm a cheap picture maker. I will scrounge and acquire as many materials as possible for little to no dollar.
It could be argued that it is due to a moral stand point relating to recycling and reusing resources available but this could potentially be a lie. I simply find old/used/found objects far more interesting than new. Not as a trendy 'vintage' 'retro' quest... As aforementioned, I'm cheap when getting my cardboard on. and definitely a little bit too keen on junk scavenging.
This is not to say this blog showcases individuals of a similar ilk...
It is a mere collection of other things I find far more interesting than the norm.
Also fairly into old maps. We'll address that later.
